The new palm pre is exclusive to sprint and people around the world want to know if you can unlock pre phones. Unlocking the pre will only be possible after the palm pre hits the market which could be months to come. We will keep our ears out for unlock pre instructions and how to's.

There is a GSM version of this, which is set to be exclusive for Vodafone in Europe. As a result, there is a way to unlock the GSM version from what I am reading, but until the phone becomes available, we may not be able to test this theory for a few months.

Do you think that people can unlock such a "closed-to-the-community" phone (iphone by apple) but can't unlock a well built open source phone ? It will happen in a heart beat, and when it does, people SHOULD discredit apple for their shameful monopoly and errogence.

I have unlocked my Pre. It took me 3 months and 1 dead device. So it's possible if you are about 15 years creating unlocking solutions ;)

I am confused since it's being offered first by Sprint. I thought their unique band (frequency) is such that there is no additional Band (frequency) installed in the phone {i.e. Dual-Band}so as the Sprint Palm-Pre would be unable to work outside the United States. I thought this has been the big reason Sprint has lost so many customers is due to having their own little private world? Again, I am Confused re the Pal-Pre from Sprint being ever able to work on the International Level. let me know if that assumption is wrong. Thank You

Until a proper GSM/EDGE version of the Pre is released on the market, an unlocked Pre would only be usable on crappy CDMA/EVDO networks such as those offered by Sprint and Bell Canada. Vitually useless junk.
